Great and very interesting compilation featuring the early steps of AMEBIX!
The first part is the full 1979 eponymous demo, a weird listening for those used to the classic sound of the band. Keep in my mind the really early stage of hardcore at the time of this recording, with the band delivering a raw mix of Crass, Dead Kennedys and a bit of a post punk / wave vibe. There's a strong shock treatment when this first recordings end and comes the time for the "Right to rise" demo. Fast forward to 1987 and these two songs are full in the "Monolith" era. Metallic and dark crust, with the vibe and the unique atmosphere that made Amebix a top tier name. This CD ends with three songs recorded live in 1987 at the Mermaid in Birmingham ending the ball with, obviously, "Arise"!
